HENRY KNOX LODGE NO. 662 was founded by a group of 22 dedicated Brother Masons desirous of forming a new lodge with a small membership. On the evening of September 7, 1927, they assembled in the White Room of the Masonic Temple at Pico and Figueroa. An application was made to Grand Lodge and, on October 13, 1927, a Dispensation was granted by the Grand Master to form a new lodge.

While under dispensation, 7 members were Raised and 14 members Affiliated so that, when the Charter was issued constituting Henry Knox Lodge No. 662 on October 11, 1928, by Grand Master Will H. Fisher, there were 43 members ready and raring to go.

Within twelve years the original membership goal of 250 was reached, but it soon became apparent that a mere 250 members would not be enough to accomplish their goals so it continued to grow and thrive through the untiring efforts of its officers and members until it became one of the best known of the "smaller" lodges in California.

The Henry Knox Building Fund was transferred to a charitable fund and became the prestigious Los Angeles Philanthropic Foundation. Until the formation of William D. Stephens Lodge, Hemy Knox was "Potentates" lodge, having provided eight brothers who went on to become Potentate of Al Malaikah or other Shrine Temples.
