Message From the Master

May 2009

Brethren,

The celebration of Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Interestingly, Cinco de Mayo is not a federal holiday in Mexico, but in California the day has been celebrated continuously since 1863.  As the day continues to resonate with Californians, we will use it as an opportunity to celebrate our State’s Mexican heritage at our May stated meeting dinner.  I look forward to seeing you there.

In addition to our Cinco De Mayo celebration, we should remember that the Most Worshipful Larry L. Adamson has proclaimed May as Youth Orders Month to remind us of our responsibility to the young men and women of the Masonic Youth Orders- The International Order of DeMolay, The International Order of Job’s Daughters and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.  In recognition of these important orders that serve our Masonic youth and ensure the future success of our Masonic organizations, we are arranging to have our members attend events conducted by local chapters of these various organizations. When we put on degrees for our candidates, the events are more memorable when members and visitors turn out in support.  It is our goal to show similar support for our Youth Orders.   Therefore, I ask that anyone interested in attending an upcoming Youth Order event please contact me for information.  The young men and women will benefit from our participation and we will be enriched by the experience.

Fraternally,

Paul D. Rosenberger
